"At it's core, Dare to Dream is empowerment..."

Dare to Dream Celebration event with students from Steyning Grammar School.

As the new academic year kicks off, and our inspirational speakers, Jack, Adam and Rhian put down their beach balls, (not footballs, never footballs), it's a great time to showcase the incredible impact that the Dare to Dream programme has on the lives of young people, and what better way than to hear from the students and mentors themselves?

So grab a cup of tea (or coffee if you're flagging!) and take 3 minutes of your day to watch the heartwarming event captured above, and more importantly, hear from the students themselves about the impact the programme has had on their lives.

A rare treat for us, last term videographer Harry Plunkett from Neighbourhood Films kindly joined us at the Sussex Yacht Club for our Dare to Dream Celebration event with students from Steyning Grammar School, to capture this great example of what we do at Dare to Dream. And we couldn't be prouder.

Generously sponsored by one of our leading partners EDF, and in collaboration with West Sussex, Brighton & Hove Careers Hub, this marked two years of partnership on the programme, supporting these students' journeys in building confidence, resilience and aspirations throughout year 9 and year 10.

Giving over 200 hours of volunteered time, EDF workplace professionals worked closely alongside the Foundation’s team of amazing speakers and programme coordinators, providing students with the encouragement, guidance and support to help them thrive as they take their next steps in education and life.

At the start of Year 9, just 54% of students believed in themselves and what they could achieve. By the time they completed the programme in Year 10, that had risen to 100%.

Similarly, just 69% felt they had strengths that could appeal to future employers at the outset. On completion, that figure was also 100%.

Alongside the wonderful comments captured in the video, those results make us pretty excited about what comes next: creating more of this impact, helping more young people feel positive about their prospects of getting a good job, and playing our part in steering those most at risk away from potentially becoming NEET in the future.

If your organisation or someone in your network could help us reach more young people and deliver more impact like this, we’d love to start a conversation.Get in touch at contact@lovelocaljobsfoundation.org.uk.
